Burke Speaks on Risk to Managerial Accounting Class
On Monday, October 3, Dr. Isaacs’ MBA Managerial Accounting class heard from Jennifer Burke, partner at Crowe Horwath LLP. Burke is a nationally recognized expert and speaker in Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Internal Audit.
Her topic, “Enterprise and Third Party Risk Management,” is an important element of management accounting and of general business management. Burke provided a perspective on risk management that addressed risk, management, and decision/action. She shared examples from her wealth of experience, and made many of her points using a football analogy. Key steps to building an effective ERM program were discussed, and the importance of considering third-party risk was emphasized.
Burke is a CPA, a Certified Risk Manager, and a Certified Fraud Specialist. Her specialties include risk management outsourcing, ERM diagnostic and design, Sarbanes Oxley compliance, and risk management services. She has over 28 years of experience in the risk management and internal audit industry, including 20 years with Crowe Horwath. Prior to joining Crowe, Burke served as General Auditor for a public financial institution and as an auditor for a governmental agency. While at Crowe, she has worked with numerous public company clients.
